Itisimportanttounderstandthat“outdooreducation”isnotahomogeneousterm.Itrepresentsadiversityofmeaningsandeducationalvalues,asitisoftenaresponseand/oraproductofdifferentlocalcultures,histories,politicalandsocialvaluesandbeliefs,andgeographiclandscapesandenvironments.Therefore,thisvolumeaimstopresentthisdiversitybyplacingoutdooreducationintheglobalcontexttohearvoicesandexpressionsofdifferentregions.Therearesevencountriespresentedinthisvolume:Canada,USA,Scotland,Denmark,Australia,JapanandTaiwan.However,bordershouldnotbethelimitofourexplorationandimagination.Wealsorecognizethatthisvolumebynomeansrepresentsa‘complete’globalvoice,eventheauthorsineachchapterrepresentparticularorientationstooutdooreducation.Weinvitedauthorsfromthesesevencountriesbecausefirstofallwewanttoincludevoicesfromdifferentcontinents.Second,thesearealsocountriesthathavebeendevelopingoutdooreducationatvariousstagesandlevels.Wehopetheirworkscanshedlightonthedifferencesandsimilaritiesintheformationsandunderstandingsofoutdooreducationinordertoconnectvoices,fillingaps,andunderstandthisabundantfieldofeducationanditspotentialtochallengedominantassumptionsaboutpedagogicalpractices,learningenvironmentsandourrelationshipwiththenaturalworld.Deeperinquiryintooutdooreducationmaycompileeducatorstoaskdifficultquestionsconcerningtheirowneducationalvaluesandbeliefsandthefundamentalpurposesofeducationandthekindoflearningstudentsexperience.
